Howard L. Reiter taught at the University of Connecticut from 1974-2009, and was department head from 2003 until 2008. He specializes in American Politics, with a focus on political parties and elections. Professor Reiter has been a Fulbright Research Scholar in western Europe, a recipient of Choice Magazine's Outstanding Academic Books Award, and a lecturer on American Politics in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In 2001-2002, he held the Uppsala Chair in American Studies in Uppsala, Sweden, as part of the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program. Professor Reiter received his B.A. from Cornell and his A.M. and Ph.D. from Harvard.

In 2010-2011, Professor Reiter will be president of the New England Political Science Association.
