The pilot POLS Alumni Mentorship Program will provide 10 political science majors an opportunity to gain career guidance and leadership support from high-profile alumni of the UConn Department of Political Science. Selected students will receive one-on-one coaching, tailored to their career goals, including help with key communication, problem-solving, and networking skills needed for professional development. Students will be assigned to alumni mentors by November 2025.
Eligibility
Students should meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior political science major with at least one full year attendance at UConn.
- Demonstrate a commitment to attending and thoughtfully participating in required mentorship meetings.
Expectations
The minimum expectation is that the mentee and mentor meet virtually or in person once a month for roughly an hour for at least six times during spring 2026, at least once over summer 2026, and once in fall 2026. Mentees are expected to:
- Join an orientation before the start of the program in early December 2025 (date TBA).
- Take part in an October 2026 event/celebration recapping the experience.
- Write a one page reflection on their experience at the end of the program.
Applications are due by Nov. 10.
