Alumni Notes: Early Fall 2024

Michael Hernandez (‘22) was profiled by the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy for their admission materials. Michael is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy and a Master of Divinity at the University of Chicago. 

Daniel Fata (‘94) was the ‘24 Commencement Speaker for the Masters Ceremony at UConn last spring. 

Sherlynn Vendome (‘24) has been accepted to Temple Law School as a Beasley Scholar. 

Jola Bufi (‘24) was awarded a Rotary Scholarship with a focus in peace building and conflict resolution, which is funding her MSc degree in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies at the London School of Economics and Political Science. 

Misha Shahid (MA ‘24) successfully defended her masters thesis, entitled “The Cognitive Political Awakening Against Western Exceptionalism for Desi North Americans”   

Maeve Collins (‘24) was featured in UConn Today’s 2024 Commencement Special Feature.  

POLS/JOUR double major Luke Feeney (‘24) had an internship with the CT Mirror and JOUR major/POLS minor Izetta Asikainen (‘24) had an internship with CTNewsJunkie. Both were covering the Sstate Ccapitol. 

Samantha Valle (‘24) was recognized with UConn’s 2024 Student Life Award Student Leader of Character Award. 

Sofie LaCombe (‘22) was accepted to the Public Policy master’s program at Trinity College. 

Andrew Cain (BA ’17, MA ’18) has accepted a new position as Program Manager at Georgetown University. He will be working to support Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies (SCS) graduate students and faculty. 

Brooks Kirschgassner (PhD ’24) signed a one-year term position as an Assistant Professor of Political Science with DePauw University 

Taesim Kim (PhD ‘19)‘s article, “Did the COVID-19 pandemic fuel public support for social protection?” was recently published in the Journal of Social Policy. 

Gregory Williams (PhD ‘15)’s starting a new position as Director of the Masters in Public Policy (MPP) program at Simmons University. 

Steve Del Visco (PhD ’18) accepted a position as a full Time Lecturer in Public Law at Georgia State University, where he teaches Constitutional Law, Civil Liberties, Judicial Process, and Introduction to American Law. 

 

Takiyah Harper-Shipman (PhD ’17) is now John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur, Chair & Associate Professor of Africana Studies at Davidson College
